Women’s Rugby League with the OURLFC Warriors

During the long evenings of Trinity Term OURLFC Women’s team, the Warriors, have taken to the field. Formed in the summer of 2010 the Warriors continues the OURLFC ethos of welcoming everyone and anyone to the game by drawing on players of all abilities from all sports –from basketball to football and rowing to lacrosse, as well as rugby union and a very few born and bred Rugby League sportswomen.

The OURLFC coaching philosophy is that the role of the club is to develop the individual, and that this is the best way to teach people to appreciate and enjoy rugby league. We ask only that everyone enjoys themselves and respects everyone else, which means that if you don’t want to play ‘contact’ rugby, then just elect to play touch-rugby with us.

The OURLFC ethos drives all that the Warriors do. Training is always designed to be light-hearted with a mix of games and skills, and tries to bring people of all levels and experience together to enjoy throwing a ball around in the summer sunshine and learning a new game… with the opportunity to play other clubs, including Cambridge.

The 3rd every Women’s Rugby League Varsity was played in June 2013 and despite not having had any games prior the Warriors beat Cambridge 68 – 4. A reflection on the quality of training and effort that all had put in over the term.

The club is currently not running a women’s team this year due to a lack of numbers – but if you are interested in helping to promote women’s Rugby League at Oxford then do get in touch with the club as we are desperate to get the Warriors going again – and add more Varsity wins to the OURLFC history!
