The day started with a Blues side turning up at Uni Parks to face a strong Birmingham Rugby League team. With centre, Mike Woyton, sporting a lovely new spray on tan and silky smooth legs, the boys began prep for a league match that required nothing less than a W.

The Blues came out firing showing good shift early on with try scoring machine, Jack Holmes, being caught 5 yards out. Jordan Ayling then showed why he’d been selected with a lovely show-and-go for a try under the sticks, 6-0. The blues didn’t let up with the home side firing in again from a long-range scrum putting McCleary in from 60 yards out. Birmingham started to gain a foothold in the game with both sides exchanging strong attacking sets only to be broken by a kicking error allowing Yoni Dennis to pounce on the ball and trundle over the line. With Ayling converting, the score was 18-0 after 15 minutes.

At this point, a head injury stopped the game for 20 minutes threatening to take the wind out of the home team’s sails. This was proven wrong with an almost instantaneous long-range try consisting of a great break from second row, Dan Smith, with Brady in at the corner. Following a period of Birmingham pressure, Holmes and McCleary combined for a deep exit set to put Conor in for his second of the afternoon. The boys continued to up their game with shots coming in from Old Man Shlids and Yoni ‘give me 10 please’ Dennis. The ref called half time with the score at 28-0 in favour of the home team.

Two more tries from Matt ‘gets shot for fun’ Brady after half time all but killed the game off, the second being try of the season with the ball passing through countless blues hands. Soon after, a well judged chip from Ayling was gathered by Henshall who beat the full back to make it 46-0. The blues began playing with ruthless tempo and offloading to allow Brady to go over for his 4th, swiftly followed by his 5th from a sliced kick from interim captain, Mark Giza.

With 10 minutes to go, prop forward Sammi Bainbridge went 50 meters looking almost certain to score before being hauled down 5 meters out. Jordan completes the scoring going in for the easiest of the day under the sticks. The last 10 saw some changes made from the blues and 3 tries going in from a gallant Birmingham side that never packed it in. Final Score 62-14.
